The contact angle on all surfaces is 43 degrees, so Concus-Finn filaments can form. The hole splits the liquid into two such filament, and the walls are low enough and the hole big enough that the liquid does not get dragged across the hole. But the walls are barely high enough that if you evolve far enough beyond the shown animation, the two filaments will merge beyond the hole.
